There comes a moment with every piece of furniture you love when care is no longer enough. The finish has lost its depth. The fabric has worn through at the arms. A joint has worked loose after years of daily use. The colour has faded unevenly in the sunlight.
These are not signs that a piece has failed. They are signs that it has been used — that it has lived in your home, served its purpose, been part of your daily life. They are also signs that it is time for the Furniture Spa.
What the Furniture Spa Is
The Furniture Spa is Mahogany Masterpieces' dedicated furniture restoration and aftercare service, established in 2010. It was the first service of its kind in Sri Lanka — a professional, specialist operation focused entirely on the restoration and renewal of solid wood furniture, upholstered pieces, and anything else that deserves better than being discarded.
We restore furniture of any brand, any age, and any condition. You do not need to have purchased your piece from us for us to restore it. If it is solid wood and it matters to you, we want to help.
"We have restored pieces that clients were certain were beyond saving. In most cases, they were not. Solid wood is remarkably forgiving if you know what you are doing."
The Signs That a Piece Needs Professional Attention
Surface dulling that does not respond to a clean wipe-down is the most common indicator. When a finish has been worn down to the point where the underlying wood is exposed, a professional repolish is the only remedy.
Water rings and heat marks that have penetrated the finish are another clear signal. These are damage to the finish layer itself, and they cannot be addressed at home. A professional repolish restores the surface completely.
Structural issues — loose joints, wobbling legs, cracked rails — should be addressed as soon as they are noticed. A small amount of movement in a joint, left untreated, becomes a large amount of movement as the joint wears and the adhesive fails. Early intervention is always simpler and less expensive than delayed intervention.
Fabric wear on upholstered pieces — fading, pilling, thin patches, or areas where the foam beneath has compressed beyond recovery — is a straightforward case for reupholstery. We can match your original fabric, source an equivalent, or work with you on a complete refresh that gives a well-made piece a new aesthetic entirely.
What a Furniture Spa Restoration Involves
Every Furniture Spa project begins with an assessment. We look at the piece in its entirety — the finish, the structure, the fabric if applicable — and provide a clear recommendation and quotation before any work begins. Nothing is done without your approval.
Repolishing involves stripping the existing finish back to the timber, preparing the surface through a series of sanding and sealing stages, and rebuilding the finish to our standard. The result is indistinguishable from a new piece — and in some cases, because the timber has aged and deepened in colour, it is more beautiful.
Our Three Service Tiers
Heritage Protect is our maintenance tier — ideal for pieces that are in good condition but benefit from a professional clean, polish, and inspection. It is the equivalent of a service for a fine watch: the piece does not need repair, but regular professional attention ensures it never will.
Estate Care is our restoration tier, covering repolishing, structural repair, minor reupholstery, and any remediation work required to bring a piece back to full condition. It is the service we recommend for pieces that have been in daily use for five years or more.
Masterpiece Guardian is our comprehensive tier — a full restoration covering the complete piece, including repolishing, complete reupholstery if required, structural rebuilding, and a post-restoration inspection. It is what we recommend for pieces that are genuinely worn, damaged, or have been stored incorrectly.
How to Engage the Furniture Spa
The simplest way to start is a WhatsApp message to +94 77 640 7831. Send us a photograph of the piece and a brief description of what concerns you. We will respond with an initial assessment and, where appropriate, arrange for the piece to be collected from your home or for you to bring it to our workshop in Boralesgamuwa.
We have restored pieces that have been in families for three generations. We have given new fabric to sofas that were worn beyond recognition. We have repolished dining tables that had been used as work surfaces for decades and returned them to their original condition. The Furniture Spa exists because good furniture deserves a second life — and often a third. WhatsApp: +94 77 640 7831.
